Sense Memories
In an act of art thinking, this project is an exploration of how our memories recollectionmight be in the future. In a world dominated by video, photographs, and digital archives, the piece challenges us to imagine a more profound connection to the past, one that reawakens not just images and sounds, but the full spectrum of sensory experiences.
Drawing inspiration from Proustian moments—those fleeting, intense bursts of recollection triggered by scent, taste, or touch—the artwork envisions a technology where memories are no longer static representations. Instead, a brain sensor detects when a memory is recalled, transforming the environment around the individual to mimic the specific sensory conditions of that moment.
Multiple people, connected through this advanced sensory interface, can travel back to a shared memory. Together, they can explore the emotional depths of a moment, adding layers of sensory input. Through this, the artwork contemplates the idea of collective memory and how shared experiences can deepen our understanding of the past.
